St. Francis High School to hold annual Open House

St. Francis High School will host its annual Open House on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Monday, September 27, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 Students in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades and their parents are invited to visit the school to meet faculty and staff members and join current Saint Francis High School students for a tour of the campus.

 The Open House will provide elementary school students an opportunity to learn about the academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs offered at the school.

 Saint Francis High School is a college preparatory high school for boys administered by the Conventual Franciscan Friars and staffed by both religious and lay faculty. The school is located at 4129 Lake Shore Road, Athol Spring, NY (Route 5 - Hamburg, NY).

Catholic School Teachers Go Back to School

With the start of the new school year less than two weeks away, Catholic elementary school teachers are not only busy preparing their classrooms, they are engaged in professional development as well.

During the week of August 17, the diocesan Department of Catholic Schools hosted a number of workshops, ranging from brain-based learning to using learning centers in the classroom.

The sessions included:  Brain Based Learning: Procedures and strategies to address all learners; Using Learning Centers in the Primary Classroom; a Practical Guide to Design and Manage Learning Centers.

Wilson and Hamburg Districts Win Prizes For School Lunch Programs

New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner, John C. Egan, today announced that OGS, in conjunction with representatives of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), selected the Hamburg and Wilson school districts as two of eight New York State school districts to receive 2010 Best Practices Awards for their efforts using USDA foods.  As a grand prize winner, the Hamburg district will receive a $5,000 cash award and Wilson will receive $1,000 to support the purchase of school lunch related equipment. 

“This program is a perfect example of New York State's commitment to healthy living" said Commissioner Egan.

Largest Summer Orientation Yet at Hilbert

HAMBURG, N.Y. – More than 100 first-time Hilbert College students will be attending the August 6 on-campus orientation, making it the largest group ever to take part in a summer orientation program at the college. The program for students and parents will take place from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at various on campus locations.

During the one-day orientation program, new students will become more familiar with the campus and learn about services, clubs, organizations, and career planning, as well as meet other students who will be attending Hilbert in the fall.

Students will also have a chance to test their teamwork skills in group races being held from 11:05 a.m.-12:05 p.m. in the Hafner Recreation Center.
