“Do one thing!” More than 100 dancers and community volunteers began to shake, shimmy, hula-hoop, twirl and boogie  this weekend to deliver BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York’s simple truth: Healthy Changes Everything!
 
The regional healthcare provider organized the Healthy Flash Mob to communicate the benefits of healthier living. Dancers performed three times on Sunday, Aug. 14 at the Erie County Fair to original music sung by two local legends -- Lance Diamond and Nikki Hicks. State Releases Complete 'RFEI' for Knox Farm State Park

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has released a request for expressions of interest (RFEI) for Knox Farm State Farm to seek alternatives to adaptively reuse unused structures and facilities to further the recreational, educational and community service missions of the Park.

“This request is a way to reach out to potential partners who appreciate the value of the Knox Farm State Park and its importance to the surrounding community,” State Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey said. “We would like to hear from individuals, foundations, philanthropists, businesses, park user groups, and other prospective partners who have a vision for the park and the capacity to capitalize on the exceptional resources it has to offer.”

The RFEI is aimed at soliciting ideas for projects to enhance and improve the park with the following elements as priorities:

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Over the last month there has been the passage of two significant pieces of legislation that will have direct impacts on Western New York’s water resources.

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed HR 2018, the so-called Clean Water Cooperative Federalism Act of 2011, by a vote of 239-184. Much of our community called or sent notes to our Representatives asking them to oppose this bill. Our local representatives did just that. If passed in the Senate, this bill would allow state agencies to override EPA decisions on pollution permits for riverside factories, the treatment of sewage waste, and the handling of dredging materials.

Legislator Fudoli Invites Public To Attend Forums Focused on Farming in Erie County

Erie County Legislator and Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board Chairman Dino Fudoli, R-Lancaster, invites anyone with an interest in farms, farmland and food production in Erie County to participate in one of three scheduled public forums planned this summer throughout the county.

Discussions pertaining to farming, food production, and efforts to plan for agriculture in Erie County will be led by Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board, the Erie County Department of Environment and Planning and American Farmland Trust. Attendees will be invited to share their thoughts about what can be done to support the viability of local farms.

“These forums are a great opportunity to share ideas and continue efforts already underway that focus on the future of farming and agriculture in Erie County,” said Legislator Fudoli.

The Dramatic Life of Margaret Fuller

Celebrate Women’s History Month by attending an original solo drama, "Men, Women, and Margaret Fuller," performed and written by actor/author Laurie James.   Based on journals, letters, articles and books, the play brings to life the bold character and words of an American foremother. The one-woman show will be staged at The 1891 Fredonia Opera House on Thursday, March 10 at 7 p.m.   There is an admission fee of $10/person, $6.50/students and seniors and groups of 20 or larger.  Tickets will be available at the door, or reserve in advance by calling the Opera House, (716) 679-1891.
