West Seneca’s New Outdoor Market to Open on May 15

 

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s new farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, will open for the season on Thursday, May 15. The event will take place on Thursday evenings through Sept. 4 on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall.

Hockey Fans Heading to London for 11-day FanFest Event

 

Celebrating the Ontario Hockey League and the Hockey Hall of Fame showcase, Downtown London FanFest in nearby London, Ontario, is the perfect way for fans and athletes on both sides of the border to celebrate Canada’s national pastime!

An 11-day celebration taking place from May 15-25, FanFest is free, open to the public and will run daily around Budweiser Gardens and Covent Garden Market Square. Activities will include an interactive PlayStation gaming experience, a CHL creative zone with a theatre-style environment showcasing a video tribute to the Canadian Hockey League, as well as an OHL-themed Hockey Hall of Fame exhibit with interactive hockey games for all to enjoy.

May is Full of Special Events at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

 

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village will be a popular place during the month of May, with several special events filling the calendar.

May charges out of the gate with a Kentucky Derby Spring Hat Luncheon & Fashion Show at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3. Festivities will include a delicious meal, auction, fashion show, hat contest and much more. The basket auction will start at 11 a.m., with lunch served at noon. Tickets are just $25 and are available by calling BNHV at 689-1440 or online at www.bnhv.org.

International Experts to Examine Crisis in Ukraine

“Crisis in Ukraine” will be examined in a roundtable discussion by faculty experts, including a guest historian from Poland, from 3 to 5 p.m. April 26 in Daemen College’s Schenck Hall Auditorium.

 

Panelists will include guest scholar Dr. Tomasz Pudłocki, assistant professor of history at Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, as well as Dr. Monica Eppinger, former U.S. foreign service diplomat in Kiev, Ukraine, and currently an assistant professor at Saint Louis University School of Law; Dr. Jacek Lubecki, associate professor and director of the Center for International Studies at Georgia Southern University; Dr. Steven Maddox, assistant professor of history at Canisius College; and Dr. John D. Occhipinti, chair of political science at Canisius. Moderator will be Dr. Andrew Kier Wise, department chair and associate professor of history at Daemen.

Catholic Charities Holds Raffle of Harley-Davidson

Catholic Charities of Buffalo will give away a generously donated 1999 Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King motorcycle. All proceeds will benefit the 70 programs and services of Catholic Charities, including education and work readiness, counseling, basic assistance, and programs for older adults.

The motorcycle, with an approximate retail value of $8,000, was given to Catholic Charities by an anonymous donor. It is a touring motorcycle with two cylinders, four-stroke, 1450 cc, fenders and a Jimmy Buffett Parrot head mural on the tank (2-sided) and other detailing.

Only 200 tickets will be sold at $100 each and the drawing will be held at noon on May 9, 2014 at Catholic Charities Montante Administrative Center, 741 Delaware Ave., Buffalo.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market to Open on Saturday, May 10

 

Several new vendors, talented local entertainers and two Wellness Weekends held in partnership with the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo will highlight the 2014 season at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market. The selling season kicks off on Saturday, May 10, and runs through Saturday, Nov. 29. Hours at the open-air venue in Buffalo’s Elmwood Village are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine.

Please note that the market will begin the season on the east side of Elmwood Avenue, directly across the street from its usual location. The move is expected to be temporary and is due to lawn maintenance.

The popular Winter Market at Horsefeathers will continue its successful run on Saturday, April 19 — a run that will last just three more Saturdays! The indoor market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through May 3 and occupies portions of the first floor and lower level of the Horsefeathers Market & Residences, located at 346 Connecticut St. on Buffalo’s West Side. 

Stop by this Saturday and pick up everything you need for your Easter table, from farm-fresh meats and eggs to wine, chocolates and delicious desserts!
