Busy Month Ushers in Autumn Season at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Four events during the month of September will welcome the new season at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road, Amherst.

The calendar kicks off with a Civil War Symposium from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10. This year’s event will highlight the 100th New York Infantry Regimen and will honor the soldiers, families and descendants from this Western New York regiment. Guests will enjoy artifacts and informational displays in the Shaw Exhibit Building as well as a guest speaker! The cost is $8 for adults, $6 for military personnel and seniors, and $4 for children under 12. Children 3 and under are admitted free.

West Seneca Farmers’ Market Plans Olympics Theme on August 18

Main Street Marketplace, West Seneca’s popular open-air farmers’ and food producers’ marketplace sponsored by the Western New York Federal Credit Union, continues on Thursday, Aug. 18. The weekly event takes place from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday evenings through Sept. 1 on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall.

The outdoor venue features approximately 25 vendors selling a wide variety of products. CCI International Exchange will host the market’s community group table on Aug. 18, while Nowhere Men will provide musical entertainment from approximately 5:30 to 7 p.m. The market’s Family Fun Zone features several games for the enjoyment of kids of all ages. 

Also on Aug. 18, the market will feature an Olympics theme, with several vendors offering special attractions or discounts!

Audubon Nature Center’s Butterfly Festival: A Not-to-be-Missed Event

Jamestown, NY – Whatever your interest – watching beautiful butterflies on wildflowers, having your picture taken as a giant butterfly or caterpillar, great crafts for the kids, yummy taste treats, and so much more – there will be something for you at the Audubon Nature Center’s Monarch Butterfly Festival.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, Audubon will celebrate this beautiful creature.

At the indoor garden, you can take pictures of Monarchs in every stage of their life cycle. Maybe you will see an adult emerge from its chrysalis or hold a caterpillar or butterfly. You can watch experts tagging butterflies and at 4 p.m. see them released to fly to Mexico, where their tags will help scientists track the migration of this rapidly dwindling species.

A new exhibit and a variety of exciting classes highlight the calendar throughout August and September at Enjoy the Journey Art Gallery, located at 1168 Orchard Park Road in West Seneca.

“Dueling Aperture’s,” a photography exhibit by brother’s in law Phil McCabe and Richard Ricci, remains on display through Aug. 27. This unique exhibit showcases the wonderful talent and insight in everyday things we take for granted.  

Wine Women & Art with Andrea Oswald takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, featuring a lighthouse beach design. All art supplies are included, plus wine, cheeses and desserts! For just $30, this is a great girl’s night out!

Learn to Make Fabulous iPhone Photographs at Audubon

Jamestown, NY – If you wonder if your iPhone can give you better, more interesting photographs than you’ve been taking, the answer is “Yes!”

On Saturday morning, August 20, 2016, at the Audubon Nature Center’s iPhoneography workshop you can learn from photographer Cathy Panebianco how to make artistic photographs with your iPhone.

During the 10 a.m-12 p.m. class, you will learn to use your iPhone to take, and create, more imaginative photographs. You will learn tips and tricks, new apps, and creative ways to use your iPhone photographs.

Bring your fully charged iPhone (4 or higher). Make sure you have an Apple iTunes account so that you can purchase a couple inexpensive apps. While not required, students may want to download the following before class: Camera Plus (camera replacement app), Snapseed (editing app), and Hipstamatic.

Church of the Annunciation to Host Annulment Workshop

The Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma, will host an annulment writing workshop from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in Selbert Hall. The session will include all the information you need on annulments and recent changes, and how to start writing your history.  

To reserve a place at the workshop, please call the parish office at 683-5254. Walk-ins are also welcome, with sign-in taking place at 6:45 p.m. There is a $5 registration fee, payable that night, to cover the cost of materials.
