Erie County Clerk, AAAWCNY, AT&T, Sheriff’s Office, NYS Police Host Distracted Driving Awareness Day

County Clerk Chris Jacobs and AAA Western and Central New York teamed up with AT&T, Erie County Sheriff’s Department and New York State Police to raise awareness for AAA’s 100 Deadliest Days for Drivers - the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day when teen crash fatalities historically climb, the AT&T “It Can Wait” campaign and state distracted driving laws. Distracted Driving Awareness Day in Western New York was hosted May 3 at the Erie County Auto Bureau in the Town of Tonawanda, where young drivers, parents and all those that visited the auto bureau were educated about the dangers of distracted driving.

Nearly 600 middle and high school students and their parents took part in the second annual  “Picture Yourself on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Powered by AT&T” event today in order to get a behind-the-scenes look at the variety of work that takes place there every day including medical, manufacturing, research and entrepreneurial organizations. The half-day event was designed to introduce future STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) careers, internships and volunteer opportunities to area students in grades seven through twelve and to demonstrate the importance of STEM education and the field’s significant  impact on the region’s resurgence.  Participation in the event exceeded the goal of 500 and increased by about 150 people compared to last year.

West Seneca Farmers’ Market Announces Entertainment Schedule

Main Street Marketplace, the 16-week open air farmers’ market that returns for its third season on Thursday, May 12, has released its entertainment schedule for the 2016 season! Entertainment is scheduled from approximately 5:30 to 7 p.m. unless otherwise noted.

The market takes place Thursday evenings from 4 to 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. When the weather cooperates, it is held on the grassy hill at the corner of Union Road and Main Street, next to West Seneca Town Hall. When the weather is less than cooperative, the market is moved into the parking lot in front of the West Seneca Ice Rink. Parking is plentiful, but walking and biking are encouraged! Feel free to bring a chair or blanket for your comfort while enjoying the local entertainment.
