HAMBURG, NY – A local man and seasoned barber took the top prize at the Andis Barber Competition at the annual International Beauty Show on Friday, March 11th.

Joe Corto, a resident of Hamburg, and a local barber at Corto’s Salons and Seasons Spas used his 50+ years experience to his advantage as he soared above the competition to claim the top spot in the Conservation and Traditional Styles competition.

Contestants were judged on technique, precision, stage performance, and overall cut with a visible transformation of their model’s hair being apparent.  Joe’s model, his brother Dominic, Owner of Corto’s, sported the winning look.

The competition, which was hosted by Major League Barber and sponsored by Andis, was open to all barbers for a $100 entry fee. Barbers from all over the world attended the event in hopes to claim the honors of being top barber.

This isn’t the first time Joe has won a competition.  He took the top honors for Men’s Haircutting at the New York State Master Cutting Competition in 1960.  His other honors include winning 4th place in the Ladies Haircutting Competition in Tampa, Florida in 1980, 2nd Place in Ladies Haircutting from the NY State Hairdressers' Association in 1978, and 3rd Place in 1979.
