Largest Summer Orientation Yet at Hilbert

HAMBURG, N.Y. – More than 100 first-time Hilbert College students will be attending the August 6 on-campus orientation, making it the largest group ever to take part in a summer orientation program at the college. The program for students and parents will take place from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at various on campus locations.

During the one-day orientation program, new students will become more familiar with the campus and learn about services, clubs, organizations, and career planning, as well as meet other students who will be attending Hilbert in the fall.

Students will also have a chance to test their teamwork skills in group races being held from 11:05 a.m.-12:05 p.m. in the Hafner Recreation Center. Wearing college orientation t-shirts in different team colors, the group competition will include scooter racing while balancing an egg on a spoon, team jump rope, a bean bag launch, Frisbee toss, “noggin catch” (catch a ball in a bucket on top of the head), paper airplane contest, and a dice roll to spell out Hilbert. A picnic in the campus quad will immediately follow the races (rain location will be the Campus Center Dining Hall).

In the afternoon, students will attend a “mini-class” from 1-1:30 p.m. in Paczesny Hall classrooms 203, 204 and 205, and learn about the Hilbert experience from current students from 2-2:20 p.m.

Parents attending the August 6 orientation will be offered the opportunity to learn more about Hilbert and gain insight into the college experience. They will also meet college faculty and staff, be familiarized with services, resources and on campus technology, and receive other information on college life at Hilbert.

Parents will also participate in a pin ceremony at 2:35 p.m. in the dining hall. Parents of students who participate in Hilbert Hawks athletics will present a hawk pin to symbolize the student joining the Hilbert community and to mark the next stage of the student’s life.

Residents of Angola, Buffalo, Cheektowaga, Depew, Derby, East Aurora, Hamburg, Lancaster, Niagara Falls, Orchard Park, Tonawanda, and West Seneca, among other towns, are expected to attend orientation, which is being held by Hilbert’s Office of Leadership Development.
