Full Summer Season Kickoff Planned at Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village

Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village, located at 3755 Tonawanda Creek Road in Amherst, is proud to announce a full May calendar celebrating the season opening! 

Free Farmstead Thursdays, made possible through funding by M&T Bank, will begin Thursday, May 4. Admission is free for all to enjoy from 4 to 8 p.m. and offers visitors access to family-friendly educational programming, demonstrations by costumed historic interpreters, guided tours of the historic village and farmstead, and 20,000 square feet of curated exhibit space. Free Farmstead Thursdays run May through August.

Rural Outreach Center Receives Donation From United Capital

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC) recently received a $2,750 donation from United Capital, a national wealth management firm with an office in Western New York.  

Through United Capital's national “Help4Hearts” program, local offices generate $250 to donate toward a charity of their choice for every client referral they receive and meet with. The program is designed to help regional offices improve lives in their communities while growing their local practices.

The ROC provides wrap-around services to rural communities in southern Western New York, helping individuals and families move toward independence. In 2016, the ROC served over 1,500 people, working to empower them toward their personal goals.

Annual Indoor Yard Sale to Benefit Pet Connection Programs Inc.

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a maternity and special care animal shelter located in Marilla, will host an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Variety Club Banquet Hall, 6114 Broadway, Lancaster. For every $5 spent at the yard sale, shoppers will receive a chance to win one of many wonderful prizes.

A donation drop-off will take place at the yard sale location from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, May 5. Items should be new or gently used; please, no electronics, broken, dirty or rusty items.

Anthony T. Goode, PT/ATC, co-owner of ProActive Sports Rehab, recently completed Graston Technique M1-Basic Training and is now treating patients with GT.  

Graston Technique is a unique, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively and efficiently address soft tissue lesions and fascial restrictions resulting in improved patient outcomes.

“Graston Technique can be used to treat any movement system dysfunction that has been determined to have a soft tissue component,” said Goode.

Rural Outreach Center Seeks Social Worker

The Rural Outreach Center (ROC), an East Aurora-based nonprofit organization dedicated to ending rural poverty in southern Erie County and surrounding areas and assisting, empowering and elevating individuals to self-sufficiency, is seeking a part-time social worker to join its dedicated staff.

The ROC offers general counseling, mental health and substance abuse counseling, play therapy, multiple support groups and many other services through partner organizations. The person selected for this position will conduct individual intakes, provide case management in home and office settings, and will work with individuals to establish goals and objectives with the ultimate goal to reach a higher level of stability and independence.

SUNY Fredonia and AT&T Stem Exploration Program’s Student Expo

More than 30 high school students from Chautauqua County celebrated the completion of the Fredonia and AT&T STEM Exploration Program with an expo and demo event where they demonstrated some of their STEM projects, including virtual reality, mathematical posters, sealed seeded petri dishes with bacteria, gliders and Theremins, an electrical musical instrument that they learned to assemble, and other projects. The students that participated in the inaugural three week program also received recognition certificates from representatives from Rep. Tom Reed’s, New York State Senator Catharine Young’s and New York State Assemblyman Andy Goodell’s offices.
